The Law Office of Matthew J. Hickey P.C. doesn’t defend criminals. We represent people charged with criminal acts. We defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the rule of law. You have rights, not the least of which are the right to a fair trial, the guarantee of Due Process, and the right to the attorney of your choosing.
I often encourage people to think of a criminal defense attorneys as E.R. doctors. We see the immediate trauma of questionable decisions or life tragedy. Each patient is different with wildly different needs and expectations. A broken wrist is treated differently than a multiple gunshot wound, as is the case in the practice of law. We seek to individualize our representation of you. By knowing our clients we get to understand their fears, concerns and expectations. I represent a limited amount of people so that I can maintain a personal relationship with each one. Clients are encouraged to call when they have a question, regardless of the time of day. We keep fees reasonable by keeping costs low. Individual payment plans are available as we want to work with you to make a strong defense accessible and attainable.

Matthew Hickey has been practicing law for more than 20 years. He graduated from the University of Dayton with a B.A. in Economics in 1993 before completing his education at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. While at John Marshall Law School he was awarded a prosecutors position with the City of Chicago Corp Council’s office during his 3rd year. As a young prosecutor for the City of Chicago, Matt learned the inner workings of the Cook County Criminal system. While still a student, Matt worked as a prosecutor for the City of Chicago and while studying for the Bar exam Matt worked on the unsuccessful, yet zealous defense of Congressman Mel Reynolds. Matt had his Juris Doctor degree conferred to him in 1996 by The John Marshall Law School.
While in law school Matt worked at least one and often two jobs in addition to attending full time classes. He knows what it’s like get up early, work hard and go to bed exhausted. If you are in need of a criminal defense attorney, you need to be comfortable and confident with your choice.
